Design for patron protection and retention
Overview
My projects at theScore are currently in development. If you’d like to know more about my experience or the projects I worked on, feel free to schedule a call with me!
This past year, I worked at theScore / Penn Entertainment on their flagship sports betting product as the designer of the Compliance vertical. I owned end-to-end feature design work focused on patron protection and retention, and collaborated cross-functionally to continually connect our team’s work to observable business outcomes.
Product Design
My work spanned user-facing product changes, regulatory compliance content maintenance, and internal operation excellence tool updates. My approach enabled outsized impact on existing users without increasing my resource footprint or adding additional oversight.
I worked to streamline and de-risk these activities by frequently documenting processes and non-tangibles. This helped me onboard quickly and independently, letting me start deeper feature work and scaling my impact ASAP in a 0 fault tolerance environment.
Design systems require a lot of maintenance! Making sure my contributions were systems-considerate keeps my work robust and new features easier to maintain.
My team always approached work by balancing effort over impact. Maintaining frequent check-in cadence and vocally collaborating with my colleagues helped us push the right features every time.
Going Forward
Between business impact and process learnings, I was able to contribute directly to two successful state launches and the design craft of the biggest digital sportsbook in Canada! While I would have liked to continue iterating and improving on the features we worked to launch during my tenure, I’ll always be thankful for the opportunity to have worked with such a friendly and supportive team!
