Over summer ‘22, I had the opportunity to intern at DVXD, a leading digital product design agency located in Toronto, Canada. DVXD provides end-to-end services (research, evolution, and prototype) for diverse leaders at all scales - non-profit, to early stage venture, to global brand.
Product Design
Right from the beginning, I was treated like a full-time employee. Over the course of four months, I delved head-first into the full gauntlet of DVXD’s signature co-creation methodology: internal and client-facing design review, ideation workshopping, and demo presentations.
DVXD’s model of work meant direct collaboration with data analysts, engineers, and product owners, where effective communication strategies and meeting cadence were crucial for project success.
I worked in tandem with my senior designers to iterate on and present designs every week. The only catch? We did it in 2 fewer days per sprint, by maintaining a strict cadence of check-ins and individual work periods.
I got the chance to work on 3 workflow-integrated design systems, the last built entirely from scratch and development system-integrated. Real design systems are living documents, and my flexibility and agility were key assets in this activity.
In the client work that I contributed to, user data and research insights always took priority. I helped run ideation workshops and moderated testing sessions, which culminated in insightful product decisions that PMs wouldn’t have seen on their own.
Going Forward
I could go on and on about my internship experience and the meaningful connections that I made at DVXD. Over standup banter, local neighborhood lunch walks, work socials, and design review sessions, DVXD has given me the most memorable internship experience of my career (4 day workweek!!!)
